The noodles themselves were fantastic. I got the Sesame Noodle option, believing that a signature dish would give me the best experience. However the service was terrible, including our server stopping to watch TV and not taking drink orders until we we're ready to order our meal. The food had cold vegetables, lukewarm meat, and the sauce wasn't well mixed in. For such good noodles, everything else just sorely lacked.
Very friendly staff and the food is very good.A unique menu with entrees you wont find anywhere else in town.
The new owner's definitley turned the place around. Lots of great traditional options and very nice service.
I get the build your own for lunch often at work. Sliced beef, ramen, peppers, carrots, sweet and sour and make it soup. Always a large portion. Always tastes good.
This is real authentic Chinese food. My wife is from Chengdu and I lived there for one year. We ordered the Chongqing and Shanxi noodles and they were better than anything I've had in China. The food here is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it if you're looking for real authentic Chinese food.
I would give more stars is I can! The food is awesome, our waiter was awesome (Robin), and very informative and kept us entertained the entire time. I would highly recommend this place and make sure to ask for Robin!
Not bad. But a little bit disappointed. I expected too much.
Due to the recent closure of Taste Place on Lincoln Way in Ames, there has been a shift of Chinese students to eating at Grandpa Noodle Gallery on 16th Street. I had the chance to visit this recommendation during my recent trip to Ames, and I ended up visiting a second time during the same short trip because the food was that good. In a nutshell, there are 2 sides to the menu, and I recommend everything on the left side of the menu. The right side of the menu has a bunch of a la carte dishes, which are okay, but nothing great. I was told that the recent improvement of the menu came about as the restaurant got a new chef. The service was friendly and prompt and the price is reasonable. There doesn't seem to be any issue with waiting for a seat as there are plenty of seating for parties of all sizes.
Best noodles I have ever had in the greater Des Moines area.
Love the food here, the Spicy Chicken is my favorite! The plates have generous servings and they always have amazing presentation. One of my favorite restaurants.
Nice place. We were there for lunch. Atmosphere is very cafeteria-like and modern, very clean and open and bright. Wait staff did not write down our order, which made me nervous, but everything was just right. (Though I overheard a wrong order received at a different table.) Food took a long time - staff informed us that a piece of equipment in he kitchen had broken and was causing delays. We were in no hurry, but it could have been a problem for someone on a short lunch break. We did the "build-your-own" both for the price ($10) and out of self-defense. The menu has lots of pictures and the names and prices of dishes but no descriptions of ingredients. Food was very tasty and a lot of it. (Note: I took the photos after we had eaten some, so bowls were fuller at the start.)Would eat there again, but really think they ought to make their menus more descriptive.
I love the create your own bowl. Their flavors are amazing and the service is great.
I love this restaurant! The steamed chicken and broccoli stir fry is my favorite. I also recommend the Hard boiled tea egg, where they boil the egg in tea. If you're looking to impress a table, try any of the hot pots!
You wouldn't think it walking in to the place, but the best Asian food in Ames. Fresh ingredients and friendly service. Delivery, take out, and eat in
I was just beyond blown away 😭😭 yes it made me wanna just cry into my soup it was so good!! One of best experiences I've ever had in my 29 years of dining out!! The food was impeccable and our waitress Ms Cecilia was probably one of the best waitresses in Ames hands down 💯 do not overlook this gem!!
The Noodle Gallery is incredible! They have such large portions and great prices. Our server was kind and helpful, super attentive to our outdoor seating. These pictures are just the leftovers.
This is really one of the best places where you can get good quality noodles. I definitely suggest everyone to visit this place as it has a lot to offer and the price is reasonable too.
It was a little empty when we went but I had been meaning to try this place. It’s still new so it made sense that it was empty. Food was soooooooo good. And well plated. I did a create your own bowl. Service was fast also. I would definitely recommend
Food was phenomenal, really good genuine Chinese food. Server was great, she was super helpful and kind to us when we visited. The egg and tomato dish was fantastic, the stir fry eggplant and potato was super good. They even had hot water if you asked for it! Really great food and not expensive by any means. Will return here in the near future for sure
Food was awesome. Excited to return and try more menu items. I went for lunch and had the lunch special. The special came with a choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup and two large crab rangoons. Crab rangoons were great (probably the best rangoons I've ever had), hot and sour soup was also very good. My business partner had the homemade noodles with tomato sauce which was very tasty. Food all tasted very fresh and cooked with love. Will be back soon!
Amazing selection of beautiful Asian dishes.
I was very disappointed in our meals yesterday. The one star is for the Rangoon which was wonderful. All 3 meals ordered were of poor quality. None had any of the vegetables we had been told would be included. No vegetables at all actually. Calamari nearly impossible to chew. One diner was steered away from beef to ground beef (as spicier) and received perhaps 2 oz of ground beef. I ordered the chicken big plate because it had been a previous good choice. It was full of bones, gristle and fat that appeared to be beef or if it was chicken, then neck bones. Very little meat. Very poor service. Server ignored my three attempts to get clarification about the meat and didn’t bring additional hot water for the tea. Honestly except for the noodles (which I don’t eat) my meal was more what I put out for the animals to eat.
Food was not bad but the cleanliness of the restaurant was horrible. My shoes literally stuck to the floor. Bathrooms had not been cleaned in a long, long time. Counters had grime that takes months to build up so clearly had not been properly cleaned in a long time. Has an open kitchen and could here several employees yelling at each other for a good 10 minutes. Much better choices in town than this place.
